Personal Information

Dorothy grew up on a ranch fifty miles east of Dallas and graduated Valedictorian of her high school class. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in English and History from the University of Texas in Austin. Dorothy was awarded an M.A. and a PhD. from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas, with further graduate study at the University of London. She is a Spiritual Director, certified through the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas, and a graduate of three levels of training with Dr. Katie Brazelton, receiving certification as a Life Purpose Coach and a Life Plan Facilitator through Life Purpose Coaching Centers International. In addition to this training,Dorothy recently completed the three-year program in spiritual formation and spiritual direction with HeartPaths DFW.

Dorothy is married to John Castle, whom she met while he was in law school at the University of Texas. They have one daughter, who is married and has twins. When she is not playing with her grandchildren, Dorothy enjoys reading, painting, beautiful sunsets, classical music, a cup of tea in the afternoon, and participating in sports, especially tennis and golf.

Experience

Dorothy co-authored a book with Iris Pearce, Every Child A Winner: 12 Spiritual Tools to Develop Self-Esteem in Young Children. This manual for teaching parents and teachers how to affirm Christian values in their children is being used in several countries in Africa today. Dorothy has led seminars, done presentations, and delivered many papers on topics ranging from spiritual disciplines and spiritual direction to the modern Christian woman’s quest for self-esteem, as well as topics concerning dreams and healing. Dorothy has been an adjunct professor of English at Texas Woman’s University and served on staff on the School of Spirituality of the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas. She and her husband were co-leaders of the Ministry of the Laity Retreat held at Laity Lodge near Kerrville, Texas, and lay leaders of The Business Men’s Retreat at Laity Lodge, led by Dr. Dale Bruner, in which they delivered presentations and led small groups, providing practical applications for Dr. Bruner’s theological themes.

In addition to these roles, Dorothy has served on the Board of Directors of Volunteers of America, the Bishop’s Committee for Canterbury House at Southern Methodist University, and the Board of Directors of Living Water International (Dallas Area).
